One, Two, Three, Four, Go! Teen Titans!

The Teen Titans are making their way to the big screen for Warner Bros., as producers Akiva Goldsman (you'd think he would realize he's already ruined Robin enough) and Kerry Foster head up the live-action adaptation. The Teen Titans first appeared in comic books in 1964, and their ranks included sidekicks of big-time heroes. The Teens included Robin (Batman's sidekick, obviously), Kid Flash (the Flash's cohort), Aqualad (apprentice of all-time-lamest superhero ever, Aquaman), Wonder Girl (Wonder Woman's sidekick) and Speedy, who studied under the Green Arrow. (Looking over that list, it becomes pretty evident that D.C. writers weren't particularly creative with the naming conventions). After falling by the wayside for a few years, the kids had a resurgence in the 1980s as new members of the team appeared. In this series, the kids were college-age adults and had more mature stories. New names included Raven, Cyborg and and Starfire, while Robin evolved into Nightwing. Most recently, the Teen Titans have had their own animated series that ran on Cartoon Network from 2000-2006. The key players included Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy. It is unknown which characters will be featured in the film, but Goldsman has said that the tone will be similar to that of Batman Begins, Superman Returns and the upcoming Watchmen. The good news is that Goldsman will not be writing the screenplay (for those feeling left out of a joke, Goldsman was the writer responsible for the horrible Batman & Robin. Of course, he later won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind, so who knows?). Instead, Mark Verheiden will write the script, which is good news depending on your point of view. On the one hand, he's written several episodes of Smallville. This means he has experience in the genre, but the problem is that Smallville is not good. However, Verheiden has also written several episodes of the marvelous sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, including the recent season finale. He's also the writer on My Name Is Bruce, featuring BOP fave Bruce Campbell, so we're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here. Chances are, several writers will give it a pass before it's all said and done.
