Lionsgate gets keys to Kingdom
Lionsgate has picked up domestic distribution rights to the Jackie Chan/Jet Li action-adventure The Forbidden Kingdom. Currently, the movie is slated for release in September of 2008. Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) will direct the film from a screenplay by John Fusco, and legendary action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping will handle the action sequences. The story is based on the Chinese legend of the monkey king, and follows a teenager who finds the king's stick weapon in a pawn shop. The teen is transported back in time to ancient China, where he joins with some warriors as they attempt to free their king. Li will play two roles - the monkey king and the silent monk. Chan will play monk T'sa-Ho.
