Boyle to Direct Ponte Tower
Danny Boyle (Trainspotting; 28 Days Later) will direct Ponte Tower, a thriller that will be set entirely in one of Africa's tallest buildings. The Ponte Tower is a 54-story building in Johannesburg, South Africa that became a symbol of white affluence under Apartheid when it opened in 1975. But it ended up becoming a gang-infected slum. In the story by Michael Thomas (Scandal; Backbeat), loosely based on a novel by German writer Normal Ohler, a girl moves to the tower at the end of Apartheid and slips into the influence of a drug lord. Boyle's next film, Sunshine, opens later this month.
