Universal to Develop Milli Vanilli Film
Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to the story of infamous pop duo Milli Vanilli, and Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me if You Can; The Last Shot) will write and direct it. Milli Vanilli was Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus; the pair quicky gained pop music fame and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist 1990 after releasing such hit singles as Girl You Know It's True and Blame It On the Rain. They had a dark secret though: someone else was actually singing the songs, and they were lip synching them. Trying to end the charade, the pair refused to promote a second album and less they were allowed to sing on it. But this move blew up in their faces and the news went public. Their Grammy was taken away, they were dropped from their music label, and lawsuits were even filed. The downward spiral continued, and Pilatus eventually ended his own life in 1998.
