Columbia to Coronate Another Cleopatra Film
Columbia Pictures has decided to create another screen version of Cleopatra, the infamous Egyptian queen. The studio acquired the rights to the story, based on a short proposal, and has optioned Pulitzer Prize winning biographer Stacy Schiff to write the script. Scott Rubin will produce the film about the ruthless ruler who rose quickly to power. She twice married (and killed) brothers (as well as a sister), and had romantic affairs with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. In 1963, a big budget version of the story was released, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, but it is most remembered for being one of the most expensive movies ever made.
