Universal to Tell Story of Planetwalker
Universal Pictures has greenlit a feature film based on the real life story of John Francis, a man who walked from one end of the United States to the other and also didn't speak a word for 18 years. In 1971 Francis witnessed a collision of two oil tankers in the San Francisco Bay, an incident which had devastating effects on the areas's ecosystem. To raise environmental awareness, he decided to take abandon motor vehicles and took a cross-country journey. He also took a vow of silence and didn't speak again until he defended his Ph.D thesis on the subject of oil spills. The activist will also soon be taking a 1,000 mile canoe trip to unite Eskimo tribes in Alaska. Tom Shadyac (Evan Almighty) will direct and Justin Zackham will write the screenplay.
