Sony Pictures Signs Black Book
Sony Pictures Classics has obtained the North American distribution rights to Black Book (Zwartboek), writer-director Paul Verhoeven's controversial (and sometimes ridiculed) World War II drama. At the recent Toronto International Film Festival it was described as "Schindler's List meets Showgirls." Some scenes include the Jewish lead female character dyeing her pubic hair blonde in order to infiltrate the Nazi party, having dund dumped on her, and some risque sexual encounters. However, the movie was also highly sought after and resulted in a bidding war among several distributers. The film is spoken mostly in German and Dutch, and is Verhoeven's first feature in his native country of the Netherlands in more than 20 years.
