White Hotel to Start Production
DM. Thomas' critically accalimed 1981 novel The White Hotel will see its feature film adaptation begin production this October. The story is about an opera singer in post-WWI Vienna who sees Sigmund Freud to deal with her hallucinatory dreams about a white hotel. She becomes his famous case study Anna G. Together. The project has been a long time coming in Hollywood as a host of names including David Lynch, Terrence Malick, Pedro Almodovar, and David Cronenberg have all been linked as possible directors. Possible stars have included Barbra Streisand, Anthony Hopkins, Meryl Streep, Isabella Rossellini, Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett. For now, though, unknown writer-director Simon Monjack will steer the project and its $20 million budget. No casting is known at this time.
