Universal Greenlights Mr. Machine
Universal Pictures has greenlit Mr. Machine, a family comedy pitch by David Gordon Green (George Washington; All the Real Girls) and Danny McBride (Nerd Camp). The story is about "three brainy slackers" who build their own robot, but discover that it wants to take over the world. The project is described as a throwback to some of the high-concept Amblin Entertainment family comedies from the 1980s, a collection that includes Gremlins, The Goonies, The Money Pit, Harry and the Hendersons, and Innerspace. Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer will produce the movie, and Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder and his brothers Dan and Doug are in talks to executive produce.
