Actors Join the Colossus
Actors Rachel Weisz, Ian McKellen and Susan Sarandon will team with Colin Firth in The Colossus, from director Sean Mathias. Set in South Africa at the beginning of the 20th century, The Colossus is a fictionalized account of a true story. An ornithologist (one who studies birds) is hired to transport some English songbirds to a former South African prime minister. Along the way he falls in love and gets involved with a plot to stop the impending Boer War. Mathias and Myer Taub adapted the screenplay the novel "Manly Pursuits" by Ann Harries.
