Magnolia goes to the District
Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights to the French film District 13 (aka Banlieue 13 in France). The film was directed by Pierre Morel from a screenplay by Luc Besson. Cyril Raffaelli and David Belle, co-founders of the real-life Parkour freestyle athletics movement, star in the film. Their movement is basically centered around combinations of martial arts, dance, gymnastics and running as they are used to navigate various dangerous obstacle courses.
The movie is a science fiction action flick that is set in the ghettos of Paris around 2010. The story follows an undercover cop and a former criminal as they try to infiltrate a gang and defuse a neutron bomb. The movie did quite well upon its French release.
