Paramount gets novel acquisition
Paramount Pictures has acquired rights to the Shannon Burke novel Black Flies before it even has a publisher. Darren Aronofsky will direct the story about a young man who becomes an emergency medical technician in Harlem. He intends for this job to be just a temporary stop before he goes into medical school. While in the EMT job, he experiences a variety of crises and adventures, including working with a mentor who makes a very wrong decision during a life or death situation. Burke herself is a former EMT in Harlem.
