Branagh's Magic Flute updated
Kenneth Branagh, who announced in August that he would direct a theatrical version of The Magic Flute, will update the story so that it takes place after WWI and will be in English rather than Mozart's original German. Stephen Fry will write the opera's libretto and the movie will feature young stars from the opera world such as Joseph Kaiser, Amy Carson and Ben Davis.

Branagh plays a Magic Flute
Kenneth Branagh has hired a variety of actors from the opera world for his feature film version of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Joseph Kaiser, Ben Davis, Rene Pape, Lyubov Petrova and newcomer Lyubov Petrova will have the starring roles. The story centers on Prince Tamino (Kaiser) and his sidekick Papageno the Birdseller (Davis). The pair must contend with evil forces as they attempt to rescue Princess Pamina (Carson). The wise priest Sarastro will be portrayed by Pape and Petrova will play the Queen of the Night.
