Paramount up to Dirty Tricks
Paramount Pictures has hired Ryan Murphy, creator and executive producer of Nip/Tuck, to write and direct the John Jeter play Dirty Tricks. Meryl Streep will topline the cast as she plays Martha Mitchell, the wife of Richard Nixon's Chief of Staff John Mitchell and a whistle-blower against that administration. Other stars of the film will include Annette Bening, who will play White House correspondent Helen Thomas, a reporter who was the contact for Mitchell on a number of her leaks. Gwyneth Paltrow will portray Maureen Dean, who stood solidly behind her husband John Dean even as the administration was falling apart in scandal. Finally, Jill Clayburgh will play Pat Nixon, who grew to detest Mitchell for what she "did" to the presidency. Murphy has previously worked with Bening, Paltrow and Clayburgh on the movie adaptation of Augusten Burroughs' book Running With Scissors.
