Moll to tell story of Till
Documentary filmmaker James Moll will direct his first dramatic feature, a movie based on one of the most notorious hate crimes in history. Emmett Till was a 14-year-old whose murder by racists in 1955 Mississippi set off a sudden spark for the race rights movement. The movie will be based on a memoir written by Till's mother, Mamie Till Mobely, and Christopher Benson called Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime That Changed America. Till was visiting relatives in Mississippi when he was accused of whistling at a white woman, abducted and murdered by two men. After they were acquited in a court of law, the men accepted $5,000 from Look Magazine to admit that they had murdered and brutally tortured the boy.
