Paramount to tell story of Marcus Dixon
Thomas Carter, who previously directed Coach Carter for Paramount, is joining forces once again with the studio to helm Marus Dixon. The movie will center on the former Vanderbilt football recruit who was imprisoned in a case that stirred racial relations and featured heavily in headlines. The young man was convicted of aggravated child molestation after having had consensual sex with a student who was just a couple months shy of turning 16. Dixon was 18 at that point, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His supporters argued that there was a child molestation law specifically passed to convict him. Dixon was ultimately released after 15 months in prison.
