Alice Wu has been hired to write and direct Foreign Babes in Beijing for Paramount Pictures. An adaptation of the memoir by Rachel DeWoskin, the film looks at a young American woman who moves to Beijing and becomes a famous soap opera actress.

Paramount goes to Beijing
Paramount Pictures has optioned the rights to the Rachel DeWoskin memoir Foreign Babes in Beijing. Frank Darabont's Darkwood Prods. will produce. The movie tells the story of a 21-year-old young woman looking for adventure, so she heads to China to work for a PR firm. On a whim, she tries out for a soap opera and gets the part, becoming an overnight sensation as the vixen in a popular show.
