DreamWorks gets Ugly Americans
DreamWorks has picked up the rights to Ben Mezrich's nonfiction book Ugly Americans: The True Story of the Ivy League Cowboys Who Raided the Asian Markets for Millions. Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions will produce. Robert Schenkkan, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his play The Kentucky Cycle, will adapt the screenplay. The story will center around John Malcolm, a Princeton graduate who took an offer in the mid-90s to be an arbitrage trader for some expatriates in Japan. Malcolm and his co-workers went from rags to riches and found the American dream all the way across the world, but then the Yakuza and governmental agents sent them on the run for their very lives.
