IFC to Distribute Barley
IFC Entertainment has obtained all U.S. distribution rights to The Wind That Shakes the barley, director Ken Loach's Cannes Festival winner. It will be released as part of the Independent Film Channel's First Take program, and will hit theaters and video-on-demand on cable television simultaneiously sometime this coming spring. Though a one-week Oscar-qualifying run later this year is also being considered. The movie, starring Cillian Murphy and written by Paul Laverty, is a 1920s period piece about an Irish doctor who abandons his practice to join his brother in a fight against Britain for Ireland's independence.

Murphy set to Shake the Barley
Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later) and Liam Cunningham have signed to star in The Wind That Shakes the Barley for director Ken Loach. Based on a screenplay by longtime Loach collaborator Paul Laverty, the movie centers on brothers who join the guerilla army that is trying to battle Britain's Black and Tan squads for Ireland's independence in 1919.
