New Line goes out into the Waters
New Line Cinema has picked up the rights to the Steve Alten book Meg: Primal Waters in hopes that they might be able to turn the bestselling novel into a franchise series of films. The project, which centers on a prehistoric man-eating shark, was picked up out of turnaround from Disney. Jan De Bont is set to direct the movie, which has been termed "Jurassic Park" by some who have been involved in the development of the project. Originally, author Alten handled the screenplay, but it will be re-written by Shane Salerno. Production should begin in the fall.
