Elf 2 gets a writer
New Line Cinema has assigned Scot Armstrong (Starsky & Hutch) to handle the screenplay for Elf 2. At this point, Will Ferrell hasn't officially signed to reprise his lead role, but it is believed that the studio has an understanding in place with the actor that gives it the confidence to continue with the development of the project. After Son of the Mask crashed and burned earlier this year, New Line's production president Toby Emmerich had said that he would only move ahead with expensive sequels if the original stars are involved.

Ferrell might be an Elf again
New Line Cinema is in talks with Will Ferrell to come back for a follow-up to Elf. The original film took in $220 million worldwide. The studio is determined to only make the film if Ferrell returns. It is undetermined who would direct the film, but the original director Jon Favreau does have the right to look at the script first. Scott Armstrong (Old School) is expected to be the screenwriter for Elf 2.
