Zwick to work on Daniel Pearl story
Director Ed Zwick will work along with Beacon Pictures to create the politically-charged drama Who Killed Daniel Pearl? Based on the book by French author/philosopher Bernard-Henry Levy, the story centers around Levy's efforts in Pakistan to unravel the events behind the kidnapping and murder of Pearl, a Wall Street Journal correspondent. Working under suspicions that Pearl was killed because he was American, Jewish and a journalist, Levy learned that the alleged killer was probably a scapegoat who was killed because he discovered ties between Pakistan's secret service and al-Qaeda.
Parts of the story will be fictionalized, with the film's focus being primarily about the perils facing journalists.
