Warner Bros. says Ha-Ha
Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to Dave King's novel The Ha-Ha, with Akiva Goldsman set up to produce. Goldsman is hoping to make his directorial debut with the project, and will assign a screenwriter to adapt the screenplay.
The story centers around a man named Howard Kapostash. Since a severe blow to his head while serving in the army, he has been unable to speak in 30 years. Since he is only able to make small gestures and a few simple sounds, most people with whom he comes into contact believe he is mentally disturbed. Yet, he's still the same guy he was before he enlisted and deeply in love with his high school sweetheart, Sylvia. These days, she's a single mom with her own problems - mainly the fact that she's being put into a drug rehab program. As a result, she asks Howard to care for her nine-year-old son, and it transforms his life.
