Picabo Street's story to hit the big screen
Director Jon Amiel and producer David Foster are set to do a feature film about the life of Olympic downhill skier Picabo Street. They are currently searching for a writer and will then take the project to major studios, and Street will be involved in taking her story to the screen. Amiel and Foster are calling the tale Skibiscuit at the moment.
Street was born and raised in a hippie commune and overcame tremendous odds to become a champion skier. She indeed won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, but shortly after doing so, she shattered her leg into pieces. Doctors believed she might never walk again, but she spent four years retraining herself both to walk and ski. Her biggest victory was when she was able to qualify for the U.S. Olympic team.
