Turner to write Magneto
20th Century Fox has hired screenwriter Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) to write the screenplay for a spin-off from the X-Men films. Magneto, an action-thriller based on the villain from the first two films and played by Ian McKellen, was described by the writer as The Pianist meets X-Men. That line of thinking makes some sense, as Magneto's back story was unveiled in the first film as he was a child being led to the concentration camps. For this version of Magneto's story, the film will focus primarily on his formative years, which means McKellen may not take on the role at all. Professor X will be a primary character in the film.
