Vaughn dumps U.N.C.L.E.

Matthew Vaughn has departed as director of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to helm Fox's X-Men 3. Nonetheless, he's still working with writer John Hodge on a spy project in the same vein as U.N.C.L.E., but it will not be a remake of the series. Vaughn convinced Warner Bros. that there was really no upside to associating this project with the old show, so expect a name change and concept change to come down the pike.

Vaughn in talks to direct U.N.C.L.E.

Matthew Vaughn is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct a movie version of the classic television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. The series was created in 1964 and starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as superagents Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin, operatives for the United Network Command for Law & Enforcement. The show ran on NBC for four years, until 1968. The director actually grew up believing he was the son of the series star. Later, however, he learned that he is actually the son of George de Vere Drummond, a minor British aristocrat.
