Croner to write Tulia
Karen Croner has been signed to write the screenplay for Tulia, a film being produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions. The film centers on a 1999 drug bust in Tulia, Texas, where 10% of the town's African-American population was arrested. Halle Berry is already set to star as an NAACP defense attorney from the institution's Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The arrests resulted in no uncovering of either drugs or money, and accusations of racial profiling were made. Texas Governor Rick Perry pardoned most of the 46 arrestees in 2003.
