IFC thinks Turtles Can Fly
IFC has picked up North American distribution rights to the Iran-Iraq co-production Turtles Can Fly. The film is Iran's official entry for the Oscar for foreign-language film this year. Written, directed and produced by Iranian auteur Bahman Ghobadi, the film tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who leads kids who sweep mine fields in Kurdistan. The movie is set just before the American invasion of Iraq. All of the kids were amateurs before filming began.
