French River to get remake
Mama Keita is set to direct an English-language remake of his French film La Fleuve (The River). Kim Watson, who previously wrote the screenplay for Honey, will handle scripting duties. The story centers around a young street hood who commits a brutal murder, forcing him to flee from New York City to Jamaica. There, he encounters a prostitute who introduces him to an unfamiliar world where he can't escape his past despite finding love.
The French version of the film was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Critics Award at the Festival of Paris.
