Woo is a He-Man
Fox 2000 has signed John Woo to direct a new adaptation of He-Man, a live action film based on the characters in Mattel's Masters of the Universe line of action figures. It will be the second live action film featuring these characters - the first starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. That film spun off from an animated series that was running at the time in 1987.
The updated film will be written by Adam Rifkin, who is also currently adapting the comic book Zoom's Academy for Revolution Studios. The story centers around He-Man, who begins life as Prince Adam, the son of beings from two different worlds - Earth and Eternia. When he is 18, he is taken to Castle Grayskull, where he is the recipient of various super powers. He-Man's sidekick is Battle Cat the tiger, and his enemy is the aforementioned Skeletor.
