Director set for Hoffman film
Charles Shyer has been hired to direct New Line Cinema's Dustin Hoffman starrer, Father Knows Less. Hoffman will portray a mogul from the recording industry who becomes stuck with the job of taking care of his family when his wife leaves him. He turns to his children from his first marriage for assistance - the same kids he neglected as he was building up his music empire.

Hoffman Knows Less
Dustin Hoffman is in final negotiations for the lead role in New Line Cinema's comedy Father Knows Less. The movie centers on a successful executive who is already on his second marriage. Suddenly, he finds himself in charge of the family affairs he had previously assumed would be handled by his trophy wife, who has just dumped him. New Line is also in talks with Shawn Levy (Cheaper By the Dozen) to direct. The movie is based on a pitch by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Levy says Father Knows Less
Shawn Levy, who has directed such family films as Big Fat Liar and Cheaper By the Dozen, has signed with New Line Cinema to direct the more adult-targeted Father Knows Less. The screenplay is based on a pitch from Aline Brosh McKenna, and tells the story of a successful but distant father who is suddenly abandoned by his young trophy wife. He has been left to raise his young children on his own, and must rely on assistance from his older children from his first marriage to muddle through.
