Penn plays poker with Affleck and Schwimmer
Director Zak Penn is set to use the similar impromptu style he exhibited in the recent documentary Incident at Loch Ness for an upcoming comedy about an international poker tournament. The film will begin shooting in February at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
Ben Affleck, David Schwimmer, William H. Macy, Richard Kind and German director Werner Herzog have all signed to take roles in the film. Insomnia Entertainment, a venture that was launched to make films that promote casino gambling, will produce and finance.
According to Variety, helmer Penn has played poker every single week since high school, and has been at the table with all of his film's stars other than Macy, who does not play. The film is inspired by Christopher Guest's mockumentaries and Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm. Each actor will be presented with a fully described character and then Penn will guide them to complete their improvised
scenes. The budget should be somewhere in the area of $10 million or less.
