Writer hired for Usher project
Paramount Pictures and MTV Films have hired Carol Doyle to write the screenplay for their untitled Usher project. In the movie, Usher will star and sing original tunes. George C. Wolfe will direct.

Usher's movie gets director
MTV Films has hired the Tony Award winning director/producer George C. Wolfe to helm its upcoming Usher movie. The movie will center on performances and musical numbers from the young actor/singer. Wolfe won a Tony for Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk and is perhaps best known for his 12 years as producer of the Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival.

Ray writer likes Usher
James White, who wrote the screenplay for Ray, will next work on an untitled drama starring pop singer Usher for Dimension Films. The movie will be a coming-of-age film about a kid from the streets who finds salvation through music, and the script is expected to be completed somewhat quickly.

Usher gets first feature role
Dimension Films has signed R&B star Usher for his first major starring role in a yet-untitled film about a kid from the streets who finds himself through music. Usher has previously had small roles in The Faculty and She's All That. The drama was written by Jonathan Prince (American Dreams) and will be produced by him as well.
