Cinema Libre to distribute Russell documentary
After Warner Bros. declined to include director David O. Russell's Iraq War documentary on an upcoming DVD re-release of the helmer's Gulf War drama Three Kings, Cinema Libre has announced that it will distribute the non-fiction flick in a double bill with Robert Greenwald's Uncovered: The War in Iraq. Russell's film is titled Soldiers Pay and runs 35 minutes. He co-directed the film with Tricia
Regan and Juan Carlos. It will begin showing in theaters this upcoming weekend.
Warner Bros. returned the film to Russell because it is seen as condemning the Iraq war, and the studio did not want to be seen as choosing sides on a divisive issue. The film was shot in the U.S. and is primarily made up of interviews with soldiers who were returning from the war as well as interviews with Iraqi actors who appeared in Three Kings.
