Gallo gets religion

Vincent Gallo (Brown Bunny) is set to star in Mary, a Bible-themed drama from indie director Abel Ferrara. In Variety, Ferrara says that the film is a "search for the heart of my religious upbringing." The movie's focus is the character of a movie star who becomes fanatical about Mary Magdalene after playing her in a film. Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead) is in negotiations to take the female lead role. Gallo will play two roles in the film, with one of them being the star/director of a controversial movie about the life of Christ. The screenplay was written by Ferrara and Simone Lageoles.
