Georgaris going to Area 51
Paramount has hired Dean Georgaris to write the screenplay for Area 51. He'll also produce the film along with his partner Michael Aguilar. The studio is hoping to launch a tentpole with the film, which is based on the Midway videogame franchise where players assume the role of a specialist handling hazardous materials. They investigate a distress signal from Area 51, where the facility has been shut down by a viral outbreak.

Paramount goes to Area 51
Paramount has acquired worldwide film rights to the upcoming Midway Games videogame Area 51. The game is scheduled for release in March 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Players of the game will take the role of a specialist who handles hazardous materials. That person must investigate a distress signal from Area 51, which is best known for the conspiracy theories about aliens and government cover-ups. David Duchovny provides the voice for the main character, while Powers Boothe and Marilyn Manson have supporting video game character roles.
