Doonesbury creator to do movie about teen mayor
Garry Trudeau, creator of the Doonesbury comic strip, has signed a deal with Walden Media and Phoenix pictures to do an original screenplay for a film about a teenager who becomes mayor of a small town in America. Though Trudeau is known for his regular lambasting of George W. Bush and Co., the film will be a bipartisan affair loosely based on the real-life stories of two kid mayors – one a conservative Republican, the other a liberal Democrat. Like all Walden films, it’s aimed at a family audience.
Along with dealing with the daily duties of being a mayor, the primary characters will also have to contend with everyday teen issues, like dating, dances and schoolwork.
