Dirt looks at NASCAR
Irwin Winkler, Charles Winkler and Rob Cowan are set to produce Dirt, a movie that will trace the history of NASCAR all the way back to the moonshine manufacturers who used their speedy cars to outrun the law. The screenplay for the film was written by David Eyre and David Burton Morris and starts just after World War II, with men of the Deep South returning to their small-town homes. Because they had few opportunities for employment, they soon were turning to the illegal art of brewing moonshine, and tuned their cars so that they could make quick deliveries and evade the cops. It’s not long before the guys decide it would be as much fun to race each other as it is to run away from the law.
