Out of the Blue remaking The Toy
Out of the Blue Entertainment is remaking The Toy for Columbia Pictures. Sid Ganis will produce the film, and the screenplay will be handled by Bob Burris and Michael Ware. The update will take elements from the 1982 Richard Pryor film and combine them with the script Jack and Jay, a comedy Burris and Ware wrote a few years ago. The new movie will eliminate the racial element of the Pryor film, which received rather heavy criticism. In that version of the story, Pryor played a hired plaything for Jackie Gleason's son. For the update, the bratty son of a powerful businessman selects a mail clerk as his "toy". The function of the "toy" is to keep the boy company while he is on his annual visit to his dad.
