Band on the Run takes on Monkees tradition
Michel Shane and Anthony Romano are set to produce the teen comedy Band on the Run, which should begin production next year. Their hope is to create a new band along the same lines as The Monkees, which was a band that was completely made for the television series. The screenplay is written by Michael Stiles and George Oliver and will be directed by video/commercial helmer Nick Quested. Teen singer Cameron Smith is signed on to star, and the film will have a $10 million budget. The story will revolve around four struggling rockers who make money by teaching snowboarding. When they meet a femme fatale promoter, they find their situation complicated by becoming suspects in a crime they didn't commit. A six-part reality show is planned to select the band members.
