Common is a Watchman
Hip-hop star Common is in talks to join the cast of the Fox Searchlight film Night Watchman, where he will play a heroin dealer from Belize who is posing as an undercover cop. The movie is based on an original idea by James Ellroy and was written by Jamie Moss. David Ayer directs the project, which looks at a disgraced cop who finds corruption inside his own department. He becomes determined to redeem himself.

Oliver Stone moves into the Night
Oliver Stone is in talks to direct The Night Watchman, an adaptation of a screenplay from James Ellroy. He would replace Spike Lee on the project, who dropped out to work on Inside Man instead. John Ridley is currently working on a new draft of the script, at which point the producers will move forward to final negotiations with Stone and Keanu Reeves, who has been attached to star. The movie tells the story of a police officer who sets out to rid his department of corruption.

Keanu Reeves is set to star in director Spike Lee's The Night Watchman. The screenplay was written by James Ellroy and centers on a cop who has fallen from grace. When he uncovers corruption inside the police department, he attempts to redeem himself.

Lee to direct Ellroy's Night Watchman
Spike Lee is in discussions to direct The Night Watchman, which is an original screenplay from the noir novelist James Ellroy (The Black Dahlia). The cop thriller is set in the Los Angeles of the early 1990s and is described as being in the same vein as Ellroy's novel-turned-film, L.A. Confidential. The ensemble picture will center around a cop who finds corruption in his department and must solve the problem in order to find redemption. The movie is set to begin filming in early 2005.
