Nichols goes for Skinny Dip
Mike Nichols, who won a best director Oscar for The Graduate and is currently taking a musical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail to the stage, has purchased the screen rights to Carl Hiassen's new novel Skinny Dip and plans to direct and produce the adaptation.
The book, which just debuted at number three on the New York Times bestseller list, centers around a crooked bureaucrat/biologist who finds himself in danger of losing his financially lucrative business when his wife discovers his pollution scam. To solve the problem, he throws her off the back of a cruise liner way out in the Atlantic. However, she proves to be surprisingly buoyant and floats on a bale of marijuana until an ex-cop rescues her. Nichols will be looking for a writer to develop the film.
