Universal ventures into fantasy with Shadowmancer
Universal Pictures has acquired the G.P. Taylor bestseller Shadowmancer for an amount ranging in the seven figures. It will be the studio's first real foray into children's fantasy/adventure. According to Variety, the studio will move quickly to hire a screenwriter to adapt the book, which is a 17th century story about a group of children who try to steal an ancient relic that will be used by an evil sorcerer to put the world into darkness.
The book is the first of nine in a series, so the property is almost certain to be developed as a potential franchise.
