Johansson to be a Silent Star
Scarlett Johansson is attached to star in Silent Star for director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry). The movie tells the true story of the life of William Desmond Taylor, the Hollywood silent film director whose mysterious 1922 murder is still the stuff of legend. Himself a former actor, Taylor first directed for Paramount, working with Mary Pickford in Johanna Enlists. He then helmed the teenage beauty Mary Miles Minter in Jenny Be Good. After becoming president of the Motion Picture Directors Association in 1917, he was soon made head of his own production unit by Paramount in 1922. Soon, he was found dead in his mansion, with rumors swirling about the circumstances of his murder, including talk of whether his lovers, including Minter and Mabel Normand, might have been involved.
