Kidman to look at Eucalyptus
Fox Searchlight is in negotiations with Nicole Kidman to co-star alongside Russell Crowe in the Australian tale Eucalyptus. The film is being directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse from a screenplay she adapted with Michelle Joyner. The story is based on Murray Bail's novel about a widower who has sheltered his beautiful daughter well into her adult life. Finally, he announces that she will marry the man who can correctly identify all of the different species of eucalyptus trees on his estate. Geoffrey Rush is set to play the father in the story.

Rush joins Crowe for Eucalyptus
Geoffrey Rush has signed to star alongside Russell Crowe in Fox Searchlight's Eucalyptus. Jocelyn Moorhouse is directing the film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Michelle Joyner. Adapted from a novel by Murray Bail, the film tells the story of a father who has a beautiful young daughter on whom he dotes. He vows that she will only marry the man who can name every species of every single gum tree in his personal eucalyptus grove. Rush will play the father.

Crowe looks at Eucalyptus
Russell Crowe is in discussions to star in Fox Seachlight's adaptation of the Murray Bail novel Eucalyptus. The most recent version of the screenplay was written by Jocelyn Moorehouse, who will also direct. The helmer also worked with Crowe in the 1991 film Proof.
The popular book is set in South Wales, and centers around a widower who decides that his beautiful daughter will only be allowed to marry the man who can identify each of the over 100 species of eucalyptus trees that dominate his estate. Complicating matters, the daughter has become infatuated with a mysterious man from New Zealand who has captured her attention with a tale about how it is possible to communicate with the trees.
