McQuarrie to look at prison experiment
The infamous 1971 Stanford prison experiment (which was fictionalized to a different location in the German film Das Experiment), will receive a big screen treatment in North America from The Usual Suspects scribe Christopher McQuarrie, with Maverick Films producing. McQuarrie is also considering directing the project.
The real-life 1971 experiment was conducted by the former president of the American Psychological Association and Stanford professor Philip Zimbardo. It was a study on the psychology of prison life, and used students in the roles of prison guards and inmates. Before 24 hours could pass, the students posing as prison guards had resorted to psychological torture, humiliation, and sexual degradation of those posing as inmates.
